Does the Fraud Stem from Intuit TurboTax? Forbes Tax Girl Talks of Scary Possibilities

Feb 25, 2015

After I read this article, What If Tax Refund Theft Isn’t Really About Refund Theft? By Forbes Contributor Kelly Phillips Erb also known as TaxGirl, the first thing I did was get my taxes done…from the President of UltimateTax. I know what you’re thinking – yes, he does use our professional tax software. I knew if someone had fraudulently filed a return in my name our software would show an IRS reject error explaining that my taxes were already filed.

Her theories give us a lot to think about. I’m not sure how I personally feel about them, but TaxGirl is a blogger that I love to follow and the information contained here is important to know – no matter your stance.

We all know that fraud has been at an all-time high, but to have potentially 80 million people with compromised data – makes me feel very vulnerable. It’s easy to imagine that an international crime group is hacking into a database like TurboTax or Anthem, but to think that the Chinese or Russian government may be involved is eerie.

Whether the security breach happened at TurboTax or Anthem, we cannot say. What we can offer is a secure way for tax professionals to run their businesses. UltimateTax software is a safe, secure and all around smart way to protect your clients information. If you have any questions about our security features, let us know, we are happy to put your mind at ease.
